here's a question?
Just wondering, how did you find this site? What keeps you posting here? Are there any members who are or were especially memorable to you? How often to you visit? how often do you post? what are your favorite forums?

My buddy stumbled on it-don't know how-and told me about it back in early 2001 and I've been here every since. I visit several times a day but don't post much cuz I don't always have much to add. I've learned an incredible amount since getting started and have managed to pass on a little of that knowledge. I keep coming back because the folks here are friendly and helpful and don't talk down to anyone with a "stupid question". I've been on some other hunting sites-this one included before the "changeover"-where flame wars break out on a regular basis and it's just no fun watching people put each other down. I come here to gain some knowledge to make myself a better outdoorsman not to have someone call me names because I don't know something. Great bunch of folks here.

My Lord, I have a hard enough time remembering what I had for breakfast and now you are asking me to remember how I found this site. I think I found it through an e-mail or via a search, but I cannot remember exactly.
The forums I hang out in the most are scatterguns, waterfowl, and hunting dogs, but I am the moderator of scatterguns and hunting dogs. A couple other forums that I hang out in are reloading, whitetails, rifles, and of course, moderators. However, when I come to the site, which is a couple of times a day when I am sitting in front of the computer all day, I always hit the "View New Posts" link in the right hand corner of the homepage and I look through all the subject lines of the threads to see if there is anything that interests me. As far as the people on the board are concerned, they are great. Sure, we have our debates every now and then, just like Val and I do over the death penalty, but it is usually pretty civil and there are a lot of people with great advice on here. I have met at least 10 people in person from this board that I would not have met otherwise. Some of them I shoot with on a regular basis. If anybody can tell me how to meet 10 good new friends over 4 years, please let me know because a person can never have too many friends, especially when they are fellow shooters and hunters. Regarding how often I post, I think you can look at my post count and get an idea for yourself.

Great topic Val,
I found the site when I was doing some research into an Alaska caribou hunt in the winter of 2000. I think I saw the site address in a hunting magazine, it seems one of the frequent posters in the Alaska forum had written an article for a magazine and plugged this site. I was lost for a while during the crash a few years back and lost my original name (Livereater). I check it a couple times a day, before work, maybe at a break (like now) and maybe after work. This is by far the best hunting site I've seen, the people are the most civil, respectful, friendly and hospitable of any outdoor site out there, bar none. Plus knowledgable. I've seen other sites that are nothing but sarcastic and hostile, here there may be civil disagreements but most are respectful discussions, even in the Almost Anything Goes forum. A lot of great members on board now, I just can't think of the names of some former members, but one I remember was Junglerat.

I believe, like alot of other members, I came across the HC site through a web search of hunting sites. It's much too difficult to ascertain exactly how much useful information that I have gleened through the past few years here (it's alot!)
I read alot more than I post (probably in part because there are folks much more knowledgable on the topics than I-unless merely offering an opinion or observation) Everyone is especially helpful, courteous, and respectful here too which makes this site kinds sorta feel like family. (Yeah, I'm sappy ![]() |

I found it doing a search for forums looking for help on training dogs. I found a couple before that had people with tons of knowledge, but they were fighting all the time on what dog was the best and who was the greatest breeder and trainer of the bunch. I'll tell you it got old really quick. Anyway I found this place and never looked back. There are a lot of knowledgeable people here with tons of information and I have learned a lot just by reading their posts. I usually read most new posts, but the ones that really interest me are the dog, upland and deer forums. My favorites on here are/were Nulle, Nevada Jim, Doc E because they have taught me so much about dogs in general. And then of course all you ladies on here Icequeen, Lilred, all the new gals that have joined here recently and last but not least you Val. Maybe some of the guys on here don't realize it but it takes a lot of self fortitude for someone to move into a field dominated by someone else. You ladies can probably out hunt half the people on here. I have hunted for 30+ years and can still learn from all of you, guys included, and thats why I keep coming back. There are few if any people on here that I would not be proud to have as a hunting partner.

I came across the site a few years ago doing a search for something. Most likely coyote hunting I think. I visit several times a day to read the posts that interest me, but don't post much anymore.
I read Anything Goes and the Reloading pages the most. I think Rocky, Cal, Jack, and a couple of the other regulars there are very helpful. |
