Oh, the delicious irony of it!
I don't know if you caught it on the news, but that scamming weasel of a woman who tried to extort Wendy's by claiming she'd bitten a human finger in their chili was sentenced today.
To nine years. In pronouncing sentence, I really, really hope the judge held up two hands - less one finger. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

My question would be whether or not it is a true nine year sentence, or a nine year suspended sentence. For some reason, I find that sentence truly hard to believe.

"Delicious irony" is a well-recognized phrase, but in this particular case, I'm not certain that "delicious" is the most appropriate adjective.
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I hope the book was indeed thrown at her.

Oh, I don't know...
Wendy's makes pretty good "civilian" chili. (By which I mean the kind that most folks think of as chili, but not what a real Texas chili-head would stoop to eat.)

Don't get me wrong, I hope that the book was thrown at her too. However, I seriously doubt that they did throw the book at her.

Ya got that right. I have news for you most Texans that were raised on chili wouldn't eat that stuff if we were starving to death. . . . . . it would be like feeding somebody who was raised on home-fried catfish a McDonald's filet-o-fish and telling them it was good. . . . . oh wait been there too. . . . .

It took me a few days of rummaging through my miscellaneous papers, but here's the recipe for a contest-winning true chili...
Laredo Red In a heavy Dutch oven, saute one large Spanish onion, coarsely chopped, in one tablespoon of lard, bacon drippings or butter. While that slowly sautes, mix 3 pounds of lean chuck (cut into 1/2" cubes, NOT ground) with 3 cloves of chopped garlic, 4 tablespoons of mild red chili, 4 tablespoon of hot red chili and 1 tablespoon of ground cumin. When the onion is clear, add the meat and spices, add heat and cook for 15 minutes until all the pink is gone from the meat, stirring often. Add 3 cups of water and 2 teaspoons of salt, then reduce heat and simmer covered for 3-4 hours until meat is tender and flavors are well blended. Add water or beer if needed. Serve as is with warm tortillas, or over cornbread. Have chopped onions, jalapeno slices, sour cream with lime juice and grated cheddar and Monterrey Jack cheeses available as toppings. THAT, boys and girls, is chili.
