Slug gun

Im wanting to buy a slug gun and would appreciate hearing some opinions, 12 or 20? brand you prefer? what scope? what brand of slugs?

12ga for the power, auto-loader to reduce recoil. Use which ever sabot slug that shoots best. They are all quite lethal when the slug is put in the boiler room.

Personally, I use a Rem 11-87 with a fully rifled barrel and Federal/Barnes sabot slugs.

I use my SBE as a slug gun. I bought a fully rifled ER Shaw barrel for it. Put a Remington one piece scope mount on it and Burris Signature Rings with a Burris Fullfield II 3-9x scope. I shoot Federal/Barnes sabots out of it and they are pretty deadly. What I like about the slug barrel is that the scope and barrel come off as a single unit, so it doesn't really get too far off zero. I can switch between the bird barrel and the deer barrel rather easily.

On top of that, I have a recoil reducer in the stock of the SBE and when I use the slug barrel, I put another recoil reducer, a mercury filled magazine cap, on the gun. The felt recoil is almost nothing and I can shoot the gun all day.

I use the NEF 12 ga Slugger II slug gun. Very accurate out to 100yds.

I agree with the majority of other folks in that a semi sure takes alot of the punch out of shooting slugs but I certainly would not discount a good pump or bolt gun.

I have been shooting a 12ga. Browning BPS with a Hastings fully-rifled cantilevered barrel along with a Leupold VX11 shotgun scope. As Fabs has already mentioned with respect to the one piece unit and point of zero, it makes swapping barrels a piece of cake. I mainly use this shotgun as a back-up and or for friends on birds and upland game. It has been proficient at helping me fill my freezer with does during shotgun season.

Last year while slinging some arrows at a local archery/gun shop, I came across a used Savage Model 210F Slug Hunter and after checking with two different employees at the shop (just to ensure that I wasn't losing my mind or eyesight ) picked it up for a song. It's a 12 ga. 3" bolt action shotgun with a 24" free floated-button rifled barrel that is drilled & tapped for a scope. It's got a very crisp trigger along with a heavy rubber recoil pad. The internal mag capacity is 2+ 1 in the pipe. It's nothing fancy -actually pretty ugly but very, very accurate. What I picked up as a back-up, climbed it's way to the top of the batting order pretty quickly! These aren't that expensive-even new. I've since seen them on sale at BPS for something like $239.00 or that ballpark. Don't let the price fool you-it's alot of gun for the money.

It's not as smooth as a semi but is manageable for a couple of range outings a season along with a few quality hunts for a fraction of the cost. Give em a looksie

12 ga. Most stores carry 12 ga. slugs but not many carry 20 ga. slugs.

I shoot a Rem 11-87 with a Leopold shotgun scope and Lightfield hybrids sabots with awesome results.

It is pretty rare for me to take a shotgun when hunting hogs or deer. If I do though, its a Remington 870 with a factory 20 inch smoothbore barrel, rifle sights, and loaded with Breneke slugs.
I can hold a 4 inch circle at 50 yards.

Mossburg 635 bolt action, ported for reduced recoil.. I use litefield slugs.. I have a 1.5 x4 scope on mine and love the set up..

I use my Remington 870 12-ga. pump with a rifled choke tube for the Remington "Slugger" Foster-type slugs. It's fills my freezer almost every year.
