Veterans' Organizations Military Arms!

Well, we just had our annual Memorial Day events and I must report on my inspection of the Military Arms I saw.

One veterans' group had .30/40 Krag rifles and they were fired using corrosive blanks by the firing party. I looked over all seven rifles and the bores were akin to the tailpipe on my truck. I advised the post commander of my concern and he said they "never clean the bores" after a firing event! Well, it shows.

Another veterans' group had M1903 Springfields and did fire circa "1943" blanks. All 7 rifles were pitted from breech to muzzle. Two of the M1903s were Mark I's.

Both groups (from different towns) had M1907 leather slings that were so dry rotted, they nearly fell off the sling swivels. I had a good Memorial Day, otherwise, and hope all other posters did as well.

Sounds like some of those old troopers forgot how to clean their rifles. Guess basic training did not stick. All the best...

CMP Rifles

Adam,
I neglected to mention that some of the CMP rifles currently offered for sale were returned from veterans' organizations. The CMP descriptions carefully report that these rifles are not new and have various degrees of wear and tear. They have a website at http://www.odcmp.com/ All the best...
