Kansas hunt

Last week I had an opportunity to go to Kansas for a couple of days and goose hunt. The young fella is trying to get a goose hunting guide thing started and asked myself and a buddy to give it a try. We got to hunt Wed. morning and things didn't start out so good, we got the truck stuck right off and didn't even start until about 10AM. The geese were on the other side of the field so we moved, now it's about 11AM and I'm figuring we have had it, I couldn't have been more mistaken. By 12 noon we had 8 geese on the ground, unlike here they seem to move all day long. hour after hour, snows, blues, lessers, whitefront and specks. At one tine we had maybe 1000 geese in the wheat field within 500 yards. We flushed them out so more would come closer to our decoys, it was UNREAL. Farmers were stopping by our trucks and trying to get us to hunt their farms, the coop had notes on the bulletin board wanting goose hunters.
I will be going back next year when he's had a little more experience but I had a ball.
By the way, we were just north of the Quirvira national refuge, when I got home I checked their site and they were holding around 750,000 geese. Just north was the Cheyenne bottoms holding about the same. They look like black bird flocks in the sky.

P.S.
The Cabelas at Kansas City has a Mule Deer display that's worth the stop. Even if you don't spend any money, like that will happen. Ha!!

Sounds like a great place to buy some property. Too bad Kansas is way too far for me to drive.

I checked the web site yesterday, in a weeks time 500,000 geese moved on. I bet just watching them leave was a sight. I wonder which one made the desicision to leave?
fabs, it would be a great place to own property, almost every wheat field had it's own oil well.
