New Born Deer

Well while turkey hunting this morning, I came upon a doe with 2 fawns that were no bigger than a puppy with longer legs ..they couldn't even stand up yet without walking like a drunk...lol...and it didn't take long for them to find food...momma stood there still as a picture watching me but the fawns didn't know enough yet to not move around......oh and I did see a long beard standing in a guys yard on the way home too...puff...relax....puff...relax..puff..I know they can read no hunting signs ....now to teach some humans to read some signs now and then...anyhow...was a nice day in the field...went back to camp...fished..caught 2 trout that I ate for dinner..one catfish I let go and numerous crappie and gills.....time for a ZZZzzz now..Oh I hate these rough days.

I wish you could have gotten pictures of those fawns. That would have been neat to see.

I sure could use a day like the one you described. Right now I feel like I could sleep for a week!

I end up with several young deer to raise and release each year from the State and others but so far nothing has come in yet.
Last year I guess I had about four that were saved. The mothers were either hit by cars or people just take them from the wild thinking they are homeless which is most often not the case.

Would love to do that once or twice.. I am nursing a sick rabbit back to health (hopefully) right now. It was hit by a car and messed it up pretty good but I took it home and bandaged it's back up and got the bleeding to stop (Dr. Madman hehehe)and it seems to be doing ok, not great but ok. it's leg is going to be lame but it still scoots about pretty quickly

When I was a kid my dad found a bunny snuggled against his tire on the car...probably sat there when the tire was still warm but it was frozen almost like a rock when he brought it home....we got to thaw it out and put it in the basement for a few days during the extreme cold snap but although we were big bunny hunters with a few bunny hounds tied up out back there is still nothing like helping a critter in need when ya can. I just wish I could of been about an hr or so sooner when I first found a doe that jumped the chain link fence surrounding the new highway here. I was passing in my car when I first noticed her thrashing around with another deer by her side. By the time I got help and got back, she had passed and we all felt so sad....if only she could of lifted her 2 hind feet just 1/4 inch higher..her back feet hooked in the very last row of links...sad but then again they need to put the fence a little higher because I also found while walking the fence line places they had just snipped sticks off at waist high while installing the new fence because I guess they didn't want to bend any and the punji sticks had deer hair, blood and some guts on them now and then....I spent a few days in this crossing spot cutting down the rest of the spears..I hope it saved more critters from agony...geezzzzz....oh well....
