Jim Zumbo
Happened to tune into the hunting channel today and saw Zumbo on. He was in the middle of an apology about his previous comment on AR's and then he went on through the show to highlight all the good things he has done (e.g., taking sick children hunting, taking wounded vets hunting, contributing to good causes like searching for the cure). At the end of the day, I am willing to accept his apology. Everybody is entitled to make a mistake now and then, so long as they own up to it.

Sorry Fabs
But I have to disagree. The guy is just trying to get back in the good graces of shooters again. He meant what he said when he said it and people who know him probably won't forget...or forgive. He just isn't very believable!

I have to agree with skeet. You don't say something like what he said without having personal convictions. If he believes what he said (which I'd hope he did considering the ramifications if he did not) then he's truly not on our side. All of his "good deeds" are for the hunting crowd, but you're not truly for one side of an argument if you're willing to bash those on the same side of the fence. He may say he's converted, but quite frankly, if your thoughts are being quoted by the antis in front of congress, you've f@#*ed up, and seriously. I don't buy it, and no serious gun owner in America should either. That's just my opinion, and I don't hold anyone else to it, it's just where I come out.

I've read some of his old stuff from the 1980's recently and I'm trying to put his statement behind. I agree he has done a lot of good over the last 30 years and I really, really wish he wouldn't have said what he did with such strong terms, if he would have casually mentioned "They're not for me" I could have understood. I'll try to forgive him but it's hard to forget.
Skeet, doesn't he live somewhere west of Cody ? How does he fit in with the locals ? I hunted with an nearby outfitter about 10 years ago that didn't care for him at all.

Yes he does live out here near Cody. Near means 100 miles out here. About 25 miles for him though. A lot of the hunters and shooters here have very little use for him. Met him 3 or 4 times. 1st time was at a gun show. Asked what Model( an 86 )Winchester I had on the table was??huh?? Actually most of the people I know just think he is somewhat of a pompous A$$. Mostly feel he gets free everything. And then makes money from it. As for me I really don't know. He did not impress me the few times we met...although he acted as though I was supposed to be. That was before the faux pas. Last time I saw him(a month or so ago) he was not so self important. A friend of hizzoner told me he is still pissed off at shooters in this country for taking his livelihood away!!?? Although he did it to himself, in my opinion.. Well...off to the Bighorns to see if'n I can see a moose or two..before the wolves kill 'em all off!! Cooler up on the mountains. Was up in the Absorokas looking for Elk the other day. At 11000 ft it was 45 degrees. At home it was 97. Saw 6 bunches of elk...about 50 all told and not even 1 calf...no young'ins at all. Wolves and grizzlies are really hurting the calf crop

MT,
I won't forget what he has done either. It seems like this guy might just be a complete moron based upon what Skeet has posted and he truly had no idea that hunters actually used AR's in the field. He might have also been stupid enough to have forgotten that some non-hunters (i.e., sport shooters) use AR's also. Both hunters and sport shooters are using these AR's to have fun. Plain and simple. Zumbo reminds me of a moron that somehow made it big. Kind of like a Paris Hilton. She actually has fans. PLEASE. I don't plan on watching his show because I rarely watch hunting/fishing shows anymore since I think they are way too fake. Nowadays, I am stuck watching the Discovery Channel and History Channel because I think they have about the only thing out there that won't completely rot my brain.

Not to start argument....his has already been fatal! I still think he is running lip to restore his income...Fabs, don't tell me you don't
capitalize on a statement in court...... Guy, IMO is a ego freak. Dan Western folks is kinda funny........they base opinions on what a person is....not what he wants you to think he is! Call it gut feelins.....works pretty well!

Dan,
I always try to capitalize on adverse statements in Court. Thing is, I'm not in Court and I am not representing a client on this one. Funny thing is that I never really watched this guy's show much, never read his articles, and probably won't watch his show anyway because those hunting shows are killing me. I forgot to mention this, but at the end of his show he showed a black bear hunt he was on. Essentially, he, another guy, and the other guy's son were sitting on one side of a river/stream watching a couple of black bears for quite a long time. Finally, they decided to take the bigger of the two after the two bears had gone at it a little. Zumbo ended up dropping the bear with a single shot, and then they waited for high tide to take the boat over to the bear and load it into the boat. Somehow, it just didn't feel like hunting to me. Kind of like lets go into the woods, have a picnic, and shoot a bear or two. For those of you that have met this guy, I will defer to your opinions on him because I have never met him and people can always put on a "show" for television and be completely different off air.

I'm with skeet as well on this one. I grew up in the same area, about an hour east of Cody. I too met him a couple times and I had the same impression.
So skeet, where are the elk at this year? I really miss hunting down there, especially mule deer and prairie dogs. ![]()

Well now...
Fabs I lived up in Alaska and can tell ya sometimes that really is what hunting is like. Tide can really make a big difference on getting from place to place...at times. I sat up next to a berry patch one time and watched the bears(5 of em) eating berries. It was a bit funny...but they really tried to stay away from each other. In fact they even seemed to avoid looking at each other.
Wahnie, I was up past the Sunshine reservoir almost at the end of the trails up there. The elk were right out in the open on the sides of 3 mountains....in the breeze to keep the bugs off. Most all the timber up in that area is dead from the pine beetles and there was a fire that burned quite a bit. Pretty dry up there at the top too. Nice wet spring down low but the mountains are dry. The were even a few antelope up there above tree line. One group of 6 bachelors and one was an easy 17 incher. Saw him at 20 yds...but he didn't stick around long...nor did the others. The forest service grazing was really skimpy and the Pitchfork ranch hasn't put any cows up there this year Saw a really nice Muledeer the other day. Maybe 28-29 inches just south east of Deaver but most of the mulies are gone from this area. At least the nice ones CWD got 'em I guess. Whitetails are really booming in this area though.

I could care less if the thread gets off topic. I have probably done the same thing countless times.

I guess to bring it back on target, but, I didn't know who he was when the flap started, had to look him up.
Ya know, sometimes your best choir members are reformed sinners, maybe we need to lighten up on him and see how he does, he could be a great asset, assuming he's sincere about learning his lesson.
