Cleaning Stuff?
For over half my lifetime, I have used Hoppes #9 as a bore cleaner and finished handgun cleaning with Hoppes Oil.
In my duty days we used Hoppes stuff and then along came CLP (Clean, Lubricate and Preserve), FP-10, and lots of other stuff for cleaning and preserving our duty guns. Bottom line: there are many fine products on the market today. I suggest you follow the directions on the label and use moderate doses on cleaning patches. I use gun grease to preserve arms in long-term storage. Adam

It depends
The attachment below shows the best documented test results of oils and rust preventive products I have ever seen. Interesting in its own right, WD-40 and 3-in-i oil did not do very well. Take care...

Only other thing I ever used was Blue Star Ointment on a brush to get rid of lead.
