The one(s) that got away....
Have any of you good folks had to pass up buying a gun that later upon reflection just tore you up with remorse? It has happened to me. Some years ago when money was tight, I had to pass up a lovely German commercial '98 Mauser sporter in 8mm with double set triggers because I did not have $75.00. I also did not buy a mint U.S. Johnson Automatic Rifle in .30-06 from WWII since $50 was beyond me. Finally, I missed out on a broomhandle Mauser pistol when I could not come up with $24.95 plus shipping. What got away from you good folks? All the best...

similar stories here Gil, missed a nice broomhandle with stock/holster, and a few rifles too.
I missed getting a Ljungman back in the mid 80's, but as i posted here, i rectified that situation 2 years ago Sometimes you just gotta be in the right place, at the right time, and with the moola. Doesn't always work that way though :/ |

Gil,
Back in 1961 right after I got my driver's license, I drove to a nearby antique shop. The old lady running the shop had antiques and about two dozen long arms for sale. About half the guns had a blue yarn thread tied around the barrel behind the front sights. The old lady said the blue yard designated guns suitable for deer hunting per her arms consultant. One of the "blue yarn specials" was a LIVE German MP-44 7.92x33mm Assault Rifle for $50.00. The old lady said she would sell the gun to me. I had a dollar to get my 49 Chevy home and $50.00 was FAR beyond my reach. I know you remember Gil because you were there. Adam

I recall the day and the fact that the old lady also had a German MP-28 9mm chopper for $40. All the best...

When i was 18. I went to a home with a yard sale and an add in the paper for a few guns for sale. I bought a savage 110 for 90 dollars with a scope. Then a winchester 30-30 for 80 dollars. He said to come over the next day and he would bring over some others he wanted to sell but was affraid to put in the add.
I had 100 dollars left to spend and wish a had 1000 as he brought out an anshautz 22 mag 120 dollars, a savage 99 150 dollars ( I thought the 99 was the ugliest thing in the world) a pump winchester 410 for 130, Smith model 60 38 for 140 dollars several 22 auto's and pumps for 50-150 dollars. And a custom winchester model 70 7 mm rem mag for 350. No military stuff just normal hunting and plinking guns. I ended up Getting a runger 10-22 and a winchester single shot 12 guage for my hundered but i still morn the custom 7mm mag to this day.

Do you want stupid? About 5 years ago I was at a gun show and found a NEW in the box High Standard for $400 and passed on it becaused I knew I would never shoot it, and I had the money in my pocket. When I thought about what I had done I went back to get it, yep, it was gone. I have never done anything that dumb again.

It has happened to me
Since then, I have tried very hard to prevent it from ever happening again. Take care...

I know what all of you are talking about. My experience was back when the Military switched from the .45 to the Baretta and you could buy those 1911 .45s for chump change and while it was partly due to stubborness on my behalf I mostly passed on buying them because my Dear Ole Mother did not allow Handguns in her home... Rifles and shotguns were A-OK but no handguns. Well when talking about her rules and the 45s that I wanted to buy one day my Grandfather told me to just buy the gun(s) ( I wanted two) and keep it at his house. Well being young and stubborn I wasn't about to buy a gun and have to keep it somewhere that I couldn't have it on hand at a moments notice and I passed on Pop's offer to keep it in his gun cabinet for me and Today I still (ouch--ouch) kick myself whenever I think about it.
