Need some advise!

I decided to buy a new gun, my collection seems to be missing a semi-auto pistol. At the local gunshop I was looking at either a ruger p89 or a Kimber 1911 (Eclipse Custom II) I am really drawn to the Kimber, but I've never really heard of the company. So I was wondering if anyone has had any experience with either? I really just want this as a fairly cheap to shoot pistol for fun at the range. But I don't want to buy something thats going to jam and be a pain.

Kimber has an excellent reputation as being very good quality, good functioning handguns. The 1911 line is their bread and butter so I would expect very good results. I've used several ruger P-series handguns with no hiccups, but the Kimber is probably the better gun. JMHO

+1 for Kimber. I have the Target model in 45ACP.

I also have $8998. in spare parts and five complete pistols. Don't fall for the trap of buying after-market parts. It's a money pit. Ruger 10-22 rifles are even worse.

Conversely it keeps me out of the bars and off the streets.
1911's are about the most fun you can have and still have your clothes on.

A BIG price difference between the two. The Kimber is by far the superior. If price is not a big object, I'd go for it in a minute! I use
a standard 1911 when I carry......being a married troop, I could not justify the cost of the Kimber..LOL

I know I have been eyeing the Kimber 1911's for awhile know.. and that would be my choice...

Plus if you get it now, we might be grandfathered if there is a ban (got to keep the Conservatives in!)

LOL, it wasn't justifying to wife, just other things had precedent!

Hey, educate me on Canadian shooting.With the laws, do you shoot at a club or just in the field? You and your dad seam to have an excellent hunting/shooting relationship!

Dan, with Canadian law we can only shoot handguns at a registered range. At home they muct be double locked (trigger lock & in a locked case) and the ammo stored seperately.

It sucks, since I have access to lots of land I could shoot on. I can take my rifles & shotguns any time I want, but never the handguns.

There are a couple of groups in Canada that are trying to get CCW legal. But since there was a shooting recently in Toronto with a registered handgun (of which the legal owner did the shooting) there is a call for an all out ban.

I don't really see that happening as long as there is a Conservative government, but nothing much will happen with the minority we have right now.

Oops went a little off topic.. or at least at a tangent.

You say handguns can ONLY be shot at a registered range! What if you have a 100-acre farm. Are you saying you Canadians cannot shoot your handguns in your farm fields? If you owned 1,000 acres of woods, can you legally shoot your handguns in your woods in Canada?

You mean to tell me in that whole BIG nation of Canada, bigger than the U.S. with less than 40 million people, you farmers cannot shoot your handguns behind your barn? What kind of "Free People" are you guys? I am not criticizing handgun owners, just the logic that restricts handguns to "registered ranges, ONLY."

My range is less than a mile away, but I prefer to shoot at my backyard bench most days, and do.

Laws are a bear....if you ever decide to visit the states, don't bring a gun with you...come to Colorado n you can use mine!

Yep Adam.. we can't shoot it on our own property leaglly... I can take my .30-06 and shoot it.. but not my little .22 single six... that I have to take the extra 15min or so drive to the range.

Hell you should see what I have to go through just to own a handgun...

If the laws get changed so ya can't even have them..they'll just come and take 'em away anyway! Sad state of affairs
