Last acquisition .308 P-H 1100 lwt
Hi All,
Thought you might like to see this one. I actually went to get a 2100 Midland then saw this in the rack and it appered to have been carried a lot but shot little so it came home with me instead of the Midland. The stock finish was worn from carry and handlind by the magazine area so the factory finish was stripped off and an oiled finish applied and this is what came out:- As you can see it came out quite good I fitted a period Nikko Special 4x32 scope with post and cross wire reticle in P-H rings. This photo is before I stripped the finish and I think you'll agree it looks better now When I do my part it also shoots very well with hornady 130 grain bullets:- It did not like a load with some 200 grain speers I had loaded a few years back as you can see from the three holes ringed higher up.

Yes it's Walnut, Parker-Hale got their stocks from the Italian company "Sile" so I would guess it's either Italian or Turkish in origin. P-H seemed to like the lighter honey coloured woods so this one is quite red. I guess it depended on what was available at the time at the right price.
For an 1100 this has good grain normally it was the Supreme , presentation or the M81 classic's that had this type of grain, or that's how I see it. I am about to try the spray on Tru-Oil on another stock. I's a P-H 1200V that had the high gloss finish and well it was quite badly knocked about and chipped in places. So I stripped it and tried some yaht varnish it was not a success as it went splotchy so I have got to strip it again and thsi tiem I will try the spray on Tru-Oil high gloss to replicate the factory finish.
