I posted this in the gunsmithing thread also.

I was whining, wailing and moaning (a skill I learned from my daughter),to Gil in our private message section here. I wanted a Mauser 98 action for a price I could afford. Not only did he find me an action, but a whole rifle attached to it in great condition!

It already has a bent handle, and very nice sporterized stock! All I am going to do is rebarrel it with a .308 (or .243, I’m still on the bubble). And drill & tap for scope mounts.

But if it was not for our guy Gil I would still be stuck.

So please help me thank Gil!

I was glad to help out. I visit a number of gun shops looking for whatever. In my travels, I come across a lot more stuff than I could ever use or buy. So if I know someone is looking for something, I pass the word along to them.

The Mauser '98 you bought dealer-to-dealer was made by Steyr and was sitting on the used gun rack for a few weeks. The shop has a vast assortment of military and sporting arms and the owner is a great and friendly guy. Keep us posted on your project. All the best...
