Yep, I was going to tell you that it was TransOcean. Also, don't forget that Haliburton was the company that installed the BOP.
What is really pissing me off is that this thing is still going on, but the media coverage has pretty much stopped about it. I guess 2 months is about all that America's attention span can deal with. Now, the media needs another disaster to get its ratings up.

In case you guys have not noticed we are getting bands here on the beach doing concerts for free, to bring in some tourist dollars for the local busineses that are hurting. Two weeks ago it was Kenny Loggins and the Doobies in FT Walton Beach. Last weekend it was Buffett and the Coral Reefers at Gulf Shores and next week it is Charlie Daniels and Skynard in Ft Walton Beach.
It is really great what these guys are doing, the "on the beach" concerts. Jimmy B's concert drew 40K they say. Things like this help and are great. Ed

it's no doubt, a disaster...however we must keep in mind that oil is a part of our NATURAL environment just like lead, mercury and uranium. what there is left after clean up will no doubt be absorbed naturally.
the oil companies should be held liable, and they are being, but...things will, more than likely, recover. it'll take a while, though. I'm not trying to minimize the disaster just trying to see some hope.

More good news, the feds who's fishing season came and went with the oil shutdown of the fishing, actually re-opened the federal waters for fishing on Tuesday. With BP releasing just about all of the charter boats they were using for oil cleanup work, once the well was capped (really odd, oil still everywhere way out, like 100 plus miles). Now the guys with big boat payments can at least try to salvage a little of their season income for the year.
The crews got the beaches cleaned up, all by hand, and the oil has moved way out into the Gulf for now. Cross fingers for no hurricane (s). Ed

Yes, natural raw oil will, given time, biodegrade like all organics.
But, what about when it has been corrupted with Corexit, the dispersant? Will the neurotoxic Corexit degrade, or continue to lie out there in wait, like some 50's horror movie seamonster - when we least expect it, the "Beast From BP" rises from the depths to coat another beach........

Fabsroman, Where did you get the information that Halliburton installed the BOP stack? At least on "on-shore" operations, this is a duty of the drilling rig operator, in accordance with the APD (Application for Permit to Drill). On those operations Halliburton wouldn't have anything to do with casing operations, other than cementing. That is far removed from the BOP installation, which would be the first order of business after surface conductor installation.
