Finally Mallards
Today we got mallard shooting finally. I'm shooting an old Western Arms Long Range SxS made by Ithaca in the 30s, mine made in 39 the year I was born. Sixteen gauge with 30" barrels choked full & full, stoked with Kent Matrix 1.25 ozs. of no. 6 shot over decoys. It is an excellent duck getter. Killed the first pair that came in a drake and a hen, hen was banded so that was a plus.

I've only been out a couple of time this year....most of our mallards are locals, and spooky as can be with all the skybusters around! Some flight ducks are starting to trickle in, though......I'll be back out in a couple of weeks.
Fair amount of teal this year.....course, they zoom in then zoom out and your going "What the hell was that!?" Should have gone duck hunting on Sunday.....went squirrel hunting instead; saw 3 mallards and a black duck (and no squirrels!)

Bumper crop of acorns this yearbut no squirrels yet. Sustained SW winds today at 20-30 mph with gusts to 60, this is through tomorrow afternoon. Will try ducks tomorrow aft again.
