electric socks
I know most electric socks are junk but are there some good ones?

Several years ago I bought my wife a pair of electric socks because she always complained of her feet being cold. They were store-branded, and I bought them at the Erie Sport Store in Erie, PA when I was there at home visiting my parents. She still has them, and while they don't work qute as well as they used to, and they have a few holes to boot, but they still warm up, and she'll still wear them under other socks if we go for winter hikes together or sled riding with the kids. We have used other brands since then, and you're right, most are junk; none compare to that pair I got her in Erie. The planets must have aligned that day and I picked the right ones.

I just bought a pair of Schnee's Arctic Pack boots, on sale for $119. I've been eyeing them for 10 years and this is by far the cheapest I've seen them, I hope they fight off the MN cold.
Oh, I've tried electric socks too - no luck. I found I was better off stuffing a little disposable hand warmer in my oversized pack boot.

Had a pair back in the late 70's....they were given as a gag gift, but they worked rather well except that A.)They ate up batteries, as skeet has mentioned and B.) the batteries were D cells that fit in a little pocket on the side of the sock....not only were they heavy as hell, they also rubbed and left an abrasion on my legs when wearing high top rubber boots or waders.

Looking around online I saw hotronic m4 they are apparently a higher end version and thus far the reviews seem consistent and solid..... not sure I could cough up $175 for heated insoles.... anyone try these? Feedback?

In my one experience with them (probably back in the 60's) I found the same thing as Skeet and Mr. 16 Guage - they were a pain in the butte to use and went through batteries like Sherman thru Georgia. The ones I had didn't even heat up all that well - IMHO they were a gimmick at best.
