In the new DU: Last Nov, wildlife division chief of Iowa DNR was participating in the 2005 Governors Pheasant Hunt when his black lab Rose suffered a seizure and stopped breathing. Garner and another hunter performed mouth to mouth resuscitation and chest compressions on the seven year old dog until she revived. Rose had hunted pretty hard that morning and was probably due for rest but they were joioned by other hunters and Rose, always the competitor, tried to set the pace for the other dogs. The result, probably low blood sugar leading to the seizure. She has been out training and she looks fine, says a relieved Garner. She has the desire to go back out hunting, thats for sure.

Although I have never experienced anything like this I do think I have allowed my dogs to hunt a little longer than they should have a few times. And its for sure they are not going to stop on their own when they are pleasing their master and doing what they love. Glad this one ended ok.
