Tips

I put a peep sight on my T/C Hawken last week and when I removed the existing back sight I was disappointed to find a small patch of rust on the barrel. As I'm the second owner of this gun, I'm not sure if it was my or the past owner's oversight. Regardless, it is not a pleasant thing to find.

I've removed the rust from the barrel and and put some Outers blueing on the bare metal. I'll follow up by rubbing some beeswax on the spot to seal it.

As per the peep mount, I put a thin layer or marine grease under it to hopefully avoid the same rusting problem (I did this previously on the barrel of my Remington .22 barrel where it touches the stock with good results)

Anyway, if you are using a BP that will see some wet weather I'd suggest you grease or oil underneath the sights to avoid the same problem I encountered...
