New Cable Modem?

Hi All,
I just got High-Speed Internet hooked up on Monday & was told by a friend that has the same service that I should dump the supplied cable modem & buy a better & faster one! The one he has is a little faster (3+MBsec) then the one they give you but, he has problems w/his dropping the signal!? I'm not complaining about the speeds I'm getting now (2.7MBsec) but, I figure a little more would be nice!
I've been on "Dial-Up" for years & got one heck of a deal on EXP
Basic Cable & Internet, free install & hookup for $60.99 a month for 12 months guaranteed! Any suggestions on what to buy?
