T/C 7mm T.C.U. barrel

i have a g2 contender my problem is the 7mm tcu 10" barrel will fit in my frame but the hammer will not go to full cock.my 10"30 herret works just fine.everything looks to be the same.has anybody ever had that problem?it seems like the barrel locking lugs arn`t going in the frame deep enough to push a lever in the frame to enable the hammer to be cocked.should i grind the lugs down to see if it will fit or would i be ruining a barrel.one barrel has a cross stamped on it the other has a star.any help would be greatly appretiated.
