Well..I thought since springtime is comin...I would like some good ole sassafrass tea er mint juleps. I plan on fixin some up over the weekend.
Then I figured..that planted in this ole head of mine is some recipies ya'll might like that I use on a daily basis. Bear with me..I'll post as many as I can..but Lilred dont use cups nor spoons..I just kinda know how much lol..but I will try my absolute best to make em as accurate as possible. Hope ya'll use em..typin time is a rare commodity these days lol. Springtime is a good time fer wild flavorin plants. They always have the most flavor durin the spring..like catnip, peppermint plants er sassafrass. So, iffin you can find some..er you can buy em at the store..try this recipe fer sassafrass tea and mint juleps. Sassafrass Tea 2 or 3 sassafrass roots, washed (they aint gotta be huge..the smaller the root, the longer the boilin time) 1/2 cup sugar large pot Pour COLD water in the pot and add the roots. (Puttin the roots in already hot water will turn the tea to fast and you'll lose alot of flavor) Boil on med/high for about 15 mins or until the tea is a med. reddish color. The longer you cook it, the stronger the tea. Add sugar to dissolve. Lilred's Mint Juleps In a small bowl, dissolve 2 tablespoons sugar and 4 tablespoons of hot water. This'll make a thick syrup. In a glass or mug, crush some mint shoots or stems. The juice is what you'll be using, along w/ the lil pieces of stem. Remove the mint shoots that wont crushed. Add a small handful of crushed or shaved ice in the glass, and pour about 1 cup of your favorite whiskey in the glass. Let the whiskey chill good, and then add the sugar syrup.
