"The suspects stuck the mattress under the patrol vehicle and were attempting to light the mattress on fire when of the officers got out.

While out, the crowd surrounded the nearest officer (pictured) and struck the officer with a hammer, "multiple" times..."

What do you do if caught up in this event by circumstance (or God forbid stupidity). Mob violence is ferocious and overwhelming. Do you shoot, do you run, can you do either?

What a fricking mess. Anyone from the area that can offer insight to what occurred down there?
