.280 owners, can this velocity be correct????
I recently had a Remington .280 built that shoots quite well. I have it loaded with the max load in the Hornady manual: 154 grn Hornady Interbond with 58.5 grains of RL22 using CCIBR2 primers and Norma brass. I posted a 3 shot group earlier that measured .340 inches at 100 yards. Now the interesting part. The Hornady manual shows the velocity of this load around 2975. I just took my buddies chrony out to the range today and shot a few rounds. It was 69 degrees. The chrony consistenly clocked this load from 3280 to 3291 fps about 8 feet from the muzzle! Can this be correct? The rifle has a 24" Lilja #2 barrel. This seems incredibly fast. I barely got 3400 fps out of my old STW with a 140 bullet and that was shooting 74 grains of RL22. What kind of speed are you guys with .280s getting out of your rifles. I'm just wondering if there wasn't something wrong with my buddies chrony. And by the way, there are no signs of high pressure on the case webs, necks or primers.
