Are there still gophers in southern Alberta?

Or is this like asking if a wild bear poops in the woods?

I used to get to southern Alberta as often as possible in the spring and summer as the gophers were thick as flies here in south Texas. 22LR seemed to be the hot setup, but, I would like to try the new 17 MkII.

Is it possible to get into Alberta with a Ruger 10/22? It used to be simple, but, then the rules changed and I haven't tried is since.
