I Need Some Help On MUSKRATS

I've been trapping on some ponds at a ranch near my house, for muskrats, and I found a couple of underwater dens. On one den I could see a rut made through the mud, which I assume is the trail to the den, well I set a #120 conibear in the middle of the rut as near to the den as I could. I was wondering if it was better to set the trap near the den entrance or off aways up the rut. If I set the trap up the path a little will the muskrat go around it? I just set them this morning so I don't know if I got one yet. Also are cherry smelling lures good for muskrats?
