While they command big prices at gun shows I got a lucky find the other day on a G.I. 1911 that was cheaper than the Springfield Armory G.I. series gun sitting beside it. While it was arsenal reworked it was blue and pretty obviously done in the 1920s. The gun itself was made in 1917.

A few of the small parts were wrong but I had them at home and soon returned it to its orignal configuration. Got to shoot it yesterday. I tried one shot at 50 yards (hit or miss at my little "metal man" reduced silhouette) and that was a hit, about 2" left of center and chest high. I moved to 25 and shot standing (with two hands - slow fire) which elicited an odd group 2.5 vertically by about 1/2 to 3/4" wide. I think the round top front sight with all the blue worn off makes detecting the actual top of the sight difficult.

Never the less, this is much better than I would have thought for a completely stock gun 90 years old. It also feeds Hydra-shoks and Winchester Ranger LE ammo just fine.

I will probably keep it
