My first night of Harvest
Hey everyone...last night was my first night to hunt...as most of you know the weather has been challenging to say the least. It poured and thundered for the entire day and I thought it might literally be a washout. Got to Lake O right around 7:30 shot the sh**t with the other guys at the ramp till dark then headed out..I could tell it was gonna be slim pickins for the first two hours, didn't see much and what I did see wasnt worth throwing at..8 and 9 footers. Even though the water is finally up at the lake all of us got stuck in some pretty thick stuff at least once, trying to get back into places we thought the big boys might be laying in.All I know is when I got out to push us off, I lost my footing and ended up in water chest high. So in the end I didnt need to worry about the rain anyway. Right around 2am we came around a point and there he was. The light hit his crown and I figured somewhere around 11 1/2 feet, no less. I stood up and my first throw of the season (which isnt usually my best) and it bounced off his back. In fact I believe the dreaded saying, "you threw like a girl" reverberates in my head. He went down and we figured we go back later. We did, about an hour later and all I saw was another airboat come out of nowhere in front of us. Our friend Tim spotted him a minute before we got there, threw and his bounced off his back also..then he was gone again. Back to the launch put in more gas, drove around till 3:30 am and didnt see anything else. Rolled back in here around 6am and we go again tonight...I'll keep you posted...
