Question Remington 750 Woodsmaster

Good morning folks,

My brother called me last night asking me if I knew anything about the above autoloader from Remington. Apparently, he has an opportunity to pick up an almost new synthetic in a .308 carbine for $400 from a neighbor. He wants to use this for a close range woods gun where shots are no more than 50 yards on average. I have hunted by him and it is dense cover for sure. I'm a lever guy for close work so any practical knowledge on this would be helpful.

I called around some shops by me and new, these retail for around $550.00 so the $400 asking price-if it is in fact near new, doesn't sound too bad. I asked him why his neighbor is selling it and he didn't know but sounded like he was selling most of his collection because he needs the cash. I asked my brother to get a list of what else he is selling!

From what I could glean off of the internet, this gun has been redesigned by Remington from the 740. They appear to be hit and miss as far as cycling issues. Some people have reported no issues at all while others have had chronic problems. My opinion is that some folks that complain of problems with any type of autoloaders sometimes do not always keep their guns well cleaned and lubricated. I wonder if that is the case here as well.

In any event, any knowledge that I could pass along from first-hand use would be greatly appreciated. Worse case scenario, I told my brother to just find a good used lever (there are tons of them by me in the used gun racks) or if he is really hell-bent on an auto (sounds like he is kinda leaning that way to me ) that he look at another auto like the Browning Bar, which I don't believe has had many issues from what I have read.

Thanks for the feedback folks!
