Where did he go....Where did who go?

Well we did the first quail hunt at the farm, ever, on our wild birds. Now I have been "hunting" pen raised birds for several years and; They Just Ain't the Same. I think I like hunting quail in nice yellow grass with an oak brush patch here and there. Nice swing, nice shot, find the bird, etc.

As my buddy said: Look out across your farm, if you see a place where you can get the gun up and get a good shot, don't go there because there ain't no birds. You see that blackberry bramble thicket over there with no way to get a shot, that is where the birds are and they wont come up till you are neck beep in blackberry thorns. He was right on.

We had a great morning, saw good places to hunt, ran the dogs and shot 3 shots and killed exactly 0 birds. But it was fun and we did get to see just how wiley a piney woods, blackberry thicket quail can be. When they get up and you do not see a single bird through the thicket that is pretty sporting. But we did shoot two nice pine trees and I shot a place where a quail was, an instant before he took a hard left around a pine tree, leaving me an HIA (Hole in Air).
Best
