An old vet's military surplus guns

My girlfriend asked me to identify, appraise and perhaps buy some military arms that belonged to an old vet who recently passed away. One family member took a few arms to a gun shop and sold them. They were all hunting rifles and shotguns. The military stuff is being delivered to me on Sunday. I was told that one rifle is an 1897 Mauser and we all know that is probably an 1898 Mauser. I have no idea what is involved nor the condition and will report back with my findings. All the best...
