Cast bullets and load experiments with the .30-30 NEF sb2 single shot

These are the first of the tests using 158gr .311 Spire Point cast GC bullets provided me by LeftoverDJ. Once I stumble on to something worth pursuing, I'll extend the range to 100 yards.
I'm testing only IMR 4198 until the load range has been tried from the bottom to the top, then other powders will be tested. The next in line will be H-335, or BW 36 which is a H-322 clone. I also have two other of DJ's bullets to run through the test. This could take a while.
I again checked the twist rate just to make sure. It is a confirmed 1-12".
I haven't slugged the barrel but I'm shooting only leftoverdj's hard cast .311 gas check bullets in my tests. My NEF sb2 was purchased new in 1992 at Clark Brothers in Warrenton VA.
I am open to advice and good suggestions in this test with my NEF sb2.

Those look great.

I'm working with 150GC bullets from LeadHead Bullets right now, also in the 30-30.

Best load so far is 27.0 of W748. I'm intending to experiment with a few of the old standards just for a benchmark, but the bulk of my work will be with new powders. Some examples: Benchmark, Xpediter, RL-10X, LilGun, AA2230, TAC, etc.

Could be interesting!

Let me know how to keep up with your findings.
I'll continue in my tests and let you know how it's going.
One thing I've been doing is segragating my rimmed brass according to rim thickness, as this seems to have a big affect with lock up pressure on a hinged breech action rifle.
