Mr. 16 gauge,

I looked for a few years before I got my Lugers; all were from WWII veterans (or their widows) and one has the "capture papers." All mine are matching and are dated "1938, 1939 and 1940." Fortunately, I have 98k rifles that match these dates and will be sold as "sets" after my demise. The most I ever paid was $400 for a 9mm Luger.

The "1940" Luger was taken off a captured German who also had an M-1 Carbine when captured in the Bulge in late December 1944. The veteran was not allowed to send the Carbine home, but he had the papers for the Luger, which I now have.

Yes, the nice Lugers are getting harder to find.
