Gil,

That is an option to have a local gunsmith rebarrel a Garand. Another option may be to have the Army or Marine Corps Marksmanship Training Units (MTUs) do the job since you are in an accredited CMP Firearms Program.

I went to Camp Perry twice on my state high power rifle team. Each morning they weighed triggers on the firing line for all 1500 competitor's guns. If your Garand or M14 did not pass, they sent you to either of two semi-trailer gunshops just behind the line for refit. The Army had a trailer as did the Marine Corps. I went to one and got a half-minute rear sight installed on my match Garand for the swap out of the old sight. I think the MTUs would be an option for rebarreling for CMP competitors as they are skilled in that stuff and have GI parts. If not, well you can't loose much if you do not ask.
