1917 Sporter .30-06
I was in a favorite gun shop on Saturday and bought a muzzleloader. There was a 1917 sporter sitting among a cluster of other military and sporterized military rifles that looked really sweet. The rifle was mint with a nice Pacific aperture rear sight. It was drilled and tapped for scope bases. The hang tag price was $225. My nephew wants a .30-6 sporter and I told him about the rifle. Today I called the shop and asked for the bottom price and it turned out to be $160.00 so I had it set back until Saturday. Looks like my nephew will get a decent rifle at a very fair price. All the best...

Nice find there Gil, i'd say he will be pleasently surprised
I dropped by a local pawn shop the other day. I don't shop there much, but it doesn't hurt to stop in and see what they have from time to time. He has a 8mm bolt, in pretty decent looking condition, but he was really busy at the time, so i figure i'll stop in tomorrow after work, wed is usually dead for him, and see what it actually is. |

Nephew loves the rifle
He saw it last Saturday and picks it up tomorrow. We found Weaver bases for it and he plans to scope it with a 3X-9X and head for the range. I showed him a factory .30-06 rifle in the same price range, but he is sold on the 1917. Good choice. All the best...
