what bullet?

I shoot a .300 Win Mag. with factory ammo. I'm sure I've tried over a dozen different loads over the last 10 years. I'm currently shooting 180 grain Fail Safe factory loads. My rifle groups them around 1" or a little better, I've used them on elk and have had 3 rounds make 3 nice exit holes, one of them front to back. I've asked several elk outfitters what bullet they recommend and most will say Failsafe, not that others are bad, just that they thought Failsafes killed the most efficiently, and were most apt to leave an exit wound for trailing.

Another absolutely devestating factory round in .300 Win. Mag. is the Federal Premium "High Energy" load with 200 grain Noslers. I've gotten exit holes on elk & caribou with these too and you can imagine the devestation that bullet does. They shoot about as flat as the 180 loads in other rounds, I don't know how Federal does it. They do pack bit more recoil but there's no free lunch.

I would also try the factory load from Remington that uses 200 grain Swift A-Frames. Similar design to Nosler but tougher I understand.

I tried Barnes X bullets that PMC used to load, my rifle didn't like them. There's a lot of good choices out there, I think the premium bullets are worth the extra $$ when you're looking at elk & moose.
