I'm pretty sure a 6/250 Improved would be a new cartridge. Maybe not - there are almost no ideas that haven't been tried by SOMEBODY.

But, it would be an expensive thing to make. You'd likely need a custom reamer and a set of custom dies. I'd guess you'd be in it $300 to $400 before you ever bought the barrel blank.

In the end, a blown out 6/250 would be -- a 243.

You'd be bushwhacking a new trail to a place where they've already run a four-lane highway.

The 6-250 is a popular round among the long range shooters like high power and others. They have trouble with the .243 burning out barrels too fast, so they came up with the 6-250, which has about the right bore to powder capacity, without a lot of recoil, and still be supersonic with heavy match bullets at a 1000 yards. But other than that, what rocky says.

The regular 6mm Remmy might be a bit long for a 22-250 action - or the magazine.

If you don't pick a wildcat, a 243 will fit perfectly.

The 284 case would require that you open the bolt face up, I would save that money for my next gun.
Acouple of quick thoughts for you. The larger the bore the faster you can push a bullet of a given weight. Example, With a .22-250 you can push a 69 gn. bullet to abt. 3,200 fps. With a .250 Savage, parent case, you can push a 75 gn. bullet to 3,400 fps. I think you would be better pleased with a .257 imp. than a 6mm on that case. If you`re looking for one that really yells custom, how about a .20- BR. I think they also chamber that one. If you go that way I would recomand that you go with a fast twist for the 50 gn. Bergers. The case head is ok for your bolt face and your case is very over bore for the .20 cal. so you should really have and honest 500 yrds coyote gun.

Hi Evan,

Ackley did a .243 AI and it seems to work quite well. A friend in Missouri has one he built up on a Savage that used to be a 22-250 as the winds were blowing the .22 bullets around to much at 600 yards and effecting his groups and scores. His .243 AI has a Lija 3 groove barrel to resist throat errosion.

Evan,
You could always go with a 6 BR, there are lot of them used in bench rest compotion. If you really want to burn alot of powder go with the 6mm 06. It has abt 1.5 gn. H2O capisty than the .240 Weatherby and all you`ll have to do is screw in a new barrel. It will push 80 gn. bullets to abt. 3400 fps., but my .257 AI will push 85 gn, bullets to 3,500 with abt 1 gn. less powder. You could go with a 1 in 14 twist and push 60 gn. bullets to 3800 fps though. Just some more to confuse you.
