I have no experience with the whispers but have used the 30-30 out of a 10" and 14" contender for a few years. The 130g hornady single shot pistol bullet works very well in this velocity range. 2 years ago I sent my 14" barrel to JD and had him rechamber it for the .309 JDJ. I get 2450fps with a 150 Hornady sst. This bullet expands well and will shoot 5" groups at 400yards off of sand bags. Ol spark and Petey watched it break clay pigeons that far away. Deer definitely die quicker than when shot with the 30-30. As far as I'm concerned though the 30-30 makes a better handgun round than in a rifle...with the right bullet.
