Calls for squirrels?

I spotted a huntin' program in the wee hours last night in which they were using squirrel calls. Anybody actually use them? My great grandfather taught me to bark like a squirrel when I was a kid, but it isn't really to call them, it is more just to tick off the males so they will bark back.

You will always have a few "punks" that bark furiously, but refuse to come any closer.
The funniest thing I ever saw involving a squirrel, was during a blackpowder hunt a few years ago.I was up a tree and two squirrels got into it below me tree. After the fight, the loser hopped away, letting out a little grunt every time he hopped. He would look back at the other squirrel and curse.True story.
I use my mouth to call them.

I use a call or my mouth to chuck at them. What I find it cause them to stop at least, and when the leaves are still heavy they pump[ thier tails and they are easier to spot.

I have a couple of squirrel calls. The type you bump on your hand or gunstock and it sounds like one barking and then you can also blow into the other end and it sounds like a small one in distress. I've not had a lot of luck with them though. I made a call out of two pop cicle sticks and a rubber band a couple of years ago and tried it coyote hunting. The squirrels came running to it, but no coyotes. Tried it last year squirrel hunting, and nothing. I guess sometimes they work, and sometimes they don't. I've heard of guys using two quarters to sound like one knawing on hickory nuts, but never have tried that.

The best one on the market is Knight and Hale.

Come to think of it, the only one I would ever buy again is Knight and Hale.

Calls like the Lohman only produce a bark. K&H produces a bark and whine. It also has some type of whine meant to be a mating call - but I half*** it and make only a whine and no bark.
It's great - I like it.
