Good for you. I do the same with the young ones...one, whose dad passed just the year before he was old enough...his dad couldn't wait for him to turn 12...Warning though...it is a HUGE responsibility...and you are in charge...stay tight with them like in their pocket so you can control the situation and teach the correct way of doing things. (These times are when you don't even bother to take your gun with you) Including good sportsmanship. Hunter ethics. All there is to see while out there like the sunrises etc. I do know of one young fellows first time out with a 'mentor' and the guy had the kid shoot a deer within the 150 yds of a house and they both got busted.....It took some doing but he is on the right track now and enjoys his days afield. I also had to straighten out a kid when his grandfather sat him not 20 yards from me on a ridge after I was already sitting there over an hr....Because he was a kid, I let him have the spot but reminded both it was not being a good sportsman by moving in on someone else.....so I moved down the ridge a few hundred yards and ended up with an 8 pt.......Teach them the right way! Safety Safety Safety first.
