M1938 Mosin
Got on in 7.62 x 54r in really good condition for under $100 at the Gunshow yesterday. It's bore is shine and rifling is sharp. Needs to have the cosmoline cleaned of it a little here and there but not majorly gummed up with the stuff.
Bought some Wolf Gold ammo for it and plan to take it to the range Friday, hopefully. Seems like a very nice little gun, especially for the price. I know I could have gotten it cheaper on line but by the time I paid for shipping and trnasfer to a local FFL dealer the price would have been right back at what I paid for the one I got yesterday. I plan on ordering a 440 round case of Light ball ammo for it from Aimsurplus, I have bought 762 x 25 ammo from them before and was happy with the price and they delivered quickly and the ammo was as described. So who else shoots on of these economicly affordable treasures? |

Sounds like you did OK!
I do not have a Model 1938, but have been looking for one. You are correct that it is often better to handle a surplus arm rather than buy it online through a dealer. The folks at AIM Surplus have always treated me well. Let us know how the new rifle shoots. All the best...

DaMadman,
The M38 is a fine and handy woods rifle. I agree with Gil, it is far better to closely examine a surplus arm before buying same. I handled a few M38 arms at the last local gun show; all were NRA Good and were priced about $150 per each. I have yet to get a nice (VG+) M38. I have the M91, 91/30 and M44 in 7.62x54R and will add a M38 one day. Best of luck shooting your new arm. Adam

Well I still haven't shot the darn thing. After seeing what Gil and Adam have posted I had to make sure mine was a M38 and not M91 91/30 or a M44,
As per this Link http://www.surplusrifle.com/mosincarbine/index.asp Mine is indeed a M38, it is the carbine without the bayoney or the integral Bayonet lug. Not really knowing what I was buying I guess I made the better selection of the two becaus the Dealer was also selling the M44 with the Bayonets on them for $119 right beside the M38's I got my M38 for right at $100 after a little negotiating and Sales tax |

Damadman, sounds like you got yourself a little sweetie.
I think you'll enjoy her, but be advised, she is a firebreather She will make a very good brush gun to medium range rifle, figure it almost right in the middle between the 30-30 and .308win |

I also bought a box of 20 tracer rounds for her at the show. They were cheaper than the regular ammo to my suprise. I can't wait to see one of those tracers go down range. |
