870 slug gun
I have a 12 gauge that I got from my father with an extra rifled barrel. The mount for the scope is cantilevered and it is a dove tail rail. Having trouble with scopes and mounts. The regular scopes like a 3x9x40 are not up high enough to zero it and I am having trouble finding anything that fits the dovetail rail. I have seen the BSquare mount you can use by removing the pins in the gun but was wondering if there any more suggestions. Thanks

Not up high enough?
Get a set of rings that are higher. BTW a 3X9 is a bit much for a slug gun....1X4, 1 1/2X5...2X7 is about as much as you could use. I did quite a few slug guns..over the years. Have an 870 slug gun now with a Leupold 1X4 on it

thanks
thanks for the info, i was wondering about this rail with the dove tail shape. all the rings i have looked at are squared off. any idea who makes this rail, i guess it would be remington but i am not sure. i do not see how to remove it to attach some regular mounts for different rings. thanks for the choices on the scopes. i have heard the optimum height for a scope is about 1 1/2" above the center of the bore any truth to this.

Yep, weaver mounts should work just fine. You can either buy the ones made by Weaver, or you can buy the ones that immitate Weaver's design which are made by almost any scope mount manufacturer. I prefer the Burris or Leupold rings, but they can be a bit pricier than the Weaver ones. You should have absolutely no problem fitting any type of scope on that gun if you get the right mounts.

I've also got an 870 slug gun. I've got a 1 x 3 Weaver shotgun scope on it, mounted on a set of see-through mounts. These put the scope up high and it fits well. The see-through mounts let you use your iron sights if you need to, not a bad back up option.
