Marlin 336 in 35 Rem?

I finally found a Marlin lever in 35 Rem. This gun in this cal. is a very rare bird in my neck of the woods. I went to seven gun places until I found one. I wonder if sales of this cal .are slowing down. What do you think? thanks.....

I've had a 336 in 35 Rem for many years and its my "go to" gun for most of my Florida hunting. I believe that Marlin is the only gun manufacturer to still use that round (except T/C and and prehaps other single shot guys) but the round is here to stay. Hornady is now making LEVERevolution ammo in 35 Rem, but I have never tried it as I'm "way happy" with how my gun performs using Winchester 200 gr Power-Points (I don't reload this round as I simple don't use enough to justify the start-up costs).

As stated in Cartridges of the World- "(the 35 Rem) has far better knockdown power than the 30-30 under any conditions and at any range".

I have found that to be very true. Velocity figures are similar to the 30-30 but the heavier bullet gives the 35 Rem a huge advantage. I've never used more than one shot on numerous hogs and deer. But, like a 30-30, don't look to this load for your long-range hunts. Recoil is modest, about like a 30-30, so you can pass it down to the kids. Just remember to buy your factory ammo when you see it as its sometimes scarce and always pricey. Otherwise, you'er gunna love it!!

Thanks guys... I have read that the Remington 200 grain cor-lokt is as a perfect you can get for a whitetail bullet. Have you tried it?

I finally found one last year, after about 10 years of looking. I sighted it in with the Hornady Leverevolution. It's not that popular in Michigan, as about every third hunter uses a .30/30, but several people I know use them.

I take it when I hunt the swamps, as the longest shot amongst the cedars there is about 70 yards, and most of the deer I shoot down there are a lot closer than that.

The Remington Core-Lokt is about as perfect a bullet as you're going to get. I've taken deer with both the 150 gr. ptd and the 200 gr round nose. Both are great, but if I had to chose, the 200 gr roundnose gets the nod.

I've got a box of the Rem Core-Lokt but have never tried them only because I'm happy with the results gotten from the Winchester Power Points. As FIJI said, deer never take a step; and my gun shoots some decent groups with the Power Points. Besides, the Winchester ammo is easier to find in my neck of the woods and I'm trying to stay consistent. Guess I'll give them a try when I run out of the Power Points I have on-hand.

I've never seen factory ammo available in 35 REM (Win or Rem) except 200 gr. Am I missing something here?

In my area, you also see a 150 grain pointed load for the 35 Remington.
I have heard it rumored that Remington brought out the 150 pointed load for the folks using 35 Rem in the Contender handgun- less recoil. I started seeing that load right after NY state made hunting deer with a handgun legal, about 20 years ago.

Excellant choice in guns. I bought a 336 35Rem. cal as my first deer hunting rifle,I still have the gun many many years later. You will like it.
