AR-15 Scope Suggestions
I’m not an AR type guy, I just got the urge so I picked up a Bushmaster A1- M4. I want to mount a scope but am unsure of what is appropriate. It seems like something in the 32mm range would be about the correct size ? A few manufacturers make scopes that they imply are for an AR 15. Does anyone have any suggestions or anything I should know.
As usual I am looking for the best scope in the world for $1.99 LOL OK how about reasonable $ that seems to be a real value.

Hi Spike!,
What is the length & Twist of barrel...and what are you planing on "Doing" with your new AR15? I have a few, and I "Do" different things with each. Knowing what you are going to use it for, and therefore, what type/brand of scope to recommend to you. I'd also recomend a trip over to www.ar15.com. It is >THE< source on information for the AR rifles. Tall Shadow |

It has a 16 inch barrel 1:9 twist. Hopefully I can do the same as I do with the Mini-14,,, Vermin to 200 yards ? with lots of paper punching.

OK I picked up a cheeeezzzy Barska 3-9X40mm and mounted it high on the carry handle with a see through mount. I’m sure glad I have Sierra Infinity software to do the trajectory curve. I bore sighed it with the laser at home, it took 9 shoots to set it in at 25yards. Checked it at 50 yards with 3 shots and went to 100 with just 2 clicks. The trajectory the software came up with was about perfect.
I must confess I am a hold over kind of guy. I know if it is zeroed for 100 or 200 and hold over from there. In this case it was zeroed at 100 (it’s an AR??) . I was done shooting for the day. I packed up and moved over to the high power range for a quick test before leaving. 6 rounds, 2 at the 100 hit + hit.. I forced myself to turn the range knob to the 200 setting, 2 shots, bang bang and it was ding ding , could this be?? It was a stretch but I turned it to 300 ,,, Bang,,,, ding,,, Bang ,,,, DING . On this cheezzzy scope the range compensator worked !!!!! AND the AR with a 16 inch barrel shot 300 yards? And hit an 8 inch target ? This must have been just luck ,,,, or was it ? ![]() Am I talking to myself,,,, Hello ! Hello .... ![]()

No, You were not dreaming....I had heard fairly good things about the Higher-end Barskas...and bought a pair of them for My two Prairie dog guns...a 22-250 custom Mauser 98, and My 24" A3 AR-15.
I bought a 6-24x40, mil-dot for the AR-15, and a 8-32x45 for the 22-250. I liked the one on the AR-15 allot!..it was dead on, held zero well, and stayed on zero throughout all of the zoom ranges...and through all of the windage/elevation adjustments I put it through. The 8-32x45(I think it's 45mm?) held zero the same way, but was getting a little dim/fuzzy at the higher zoom settings. I was going to keep the 6-24 on the AR-15, but I was not happy enough with the 8-32 on the 22-250.....so, I went out and bought another of the scopes I have used on my bench rest 50BMG rifles.....A BSA Platinum 8-32x50 milldot....and I Love it! I also was just about given one of the new Millett side focus Illuminated mill-dot 30mm scopes, buy a good friend of mine.....and it is so nice, that I think I'm going to have to change out the Barska on the AR-15 with it...... Now I've got two almost brand new Barskas that I don't have on a rifle.........there is only one thing to do.... I MUST buy two new rifles! Tall Shadow |
