A Russian M1940 Tokarev Rifle.

I just acquired as Very Good+ in and out M40 Tokarev. The Tokarev is a contemporary of the Garand and the Johnson and all have different good points that should have been combined into the ideal WWII rifle.

The Garand had excellent sights easily adjusted for windage and elevation. The Johnson and Tokarev could have the mag "topped off" without opening the bolt and the Tokarev had an adjustable gas system to regulate gas pressure that cycles the action.

Gas guns are interesting and represent a point in the history of firearms development.

Get another gun safe

I have a pair of mint 1940 Tokarev rifles made in 1941 at the outbreak of the Great Patriotic War. You are correct that the Tokarev is an interesting rifle, but not in the same category for fit, finish and workmanship of the M1 Garand or 1941 Johnson.

How much are Tokarev's selling for these days? I have not seen one for sale for a few years. All the best...

Gil,

I paid $350 for this M40. You are correct; Russian guns look like Ivan the plumber built them, but they are functional and reliable. The adjustable gas pressure is a very good thing on any gas gun.
