257 Weatherby
Looking at having a 257 Weatherby built for my for my son. i was looking for anyone outhere that may have some useful input on this caliber. I would like to know about accuracy results and how this round performs all around. Thanks for any help!

If the smith does it right there is not much difference in accuracy between different rounds. The only advantage you have with the Weatherby over a .25-06 in about 25 yrds. more on max. point blank range figured on plus or minus 5 in. With a 117 gn. Serria spt bullet the .25-06 will get you abt. 355 yrds and the Weatherby will get you 380 yrds. With the .25-06 ammo will be far easier to find and alot cheaper to buy. If you reload the Weatherby brass will cost alot more and you will not be ablt to load it as many time as you can the .25-06. If I were going for some thing in 25 cal. and going for fast I would probily go with the .257 Baker Mag. It is the .264 Win. case necked down and will give you another 25 yrds. over the Weatherby.
To be honest my pick in of the 25 cal`s is the .257 Ackley imp. Does abt the same as the .25-06 with alittle less powder, and I like the case better. They all kill game.

40 years ago, I had a guy build me one on a pre war M70 action/Douglas BBL/blank had aged for bout 15 years......
Loaded IMR4350 under 100 Hornadys for deer/antelope.......was deadly!!!!!Actually killed several elk with some of Fred Barnes original 120 gr...... Dan  Smith took about a year to inlet it........only worked on it when he felt like it.....believe it or not, dang thing never change POI in the 20 years I owned it!!!!!Traded it to a nephew for a .338.

RUMLUVER, don't know if you made your choice yet but I've taken quite a few lopers and deer with the .257 Weatherby and it has performed well. The brass is more expensive if you buy it retail. At gun shows is where you want to look for brass as it is not as popular as the .06, .308, .270 etc etc . When you find it it is usually priced well below retail. I've found brand new Weatherby brass for $10.00 a box at our gun show, bought all ten boxes of it.
If you don't reload I would go with the 25.06 as it is easier to find in general stores when out of state hunting . I think the 25.06 is a great caliber and would have one but my wife back in 1988 surprised me with one for a X-mas gift  she's a keeper. MC
