Fixed Sights are OK.

While I prefer adjustable sights for handguns, when that is an option, I do have several fixed-sight handguns that are "fed" loads that shoot-to-the-sights.

Last week I had one more fixed-sighted gun join the "Heap" here on the farm. My old M1911 Colt was at the bench and the adjustable sight did NOT respond to the applied Left Windage. I saw that the old circa 1971 adjustable sight "died." I took the gun over the hill to a neighbor who is also a retired federal agent and big-time handgun competitor. Tony assessed the situation and told me he could install a fixed rear sight to accomodate the high existing front sight on the slide. I told him, "Do it."

Last Sunday I took the 1911 to the backyard bench with a box of my favorite 200 grain SWCs, and the accuracy load in that old backup .45. WALLA! I could not believe the fixed rear sight was on point of aim at 25 yards with that load in that gun. I immediately staked the rear sight in place and made note in my shooting log that the M1911 needs 5.0, 700X and the 200 cast SWC for all time to come.

Now I shall increase my church pledge and work with some other guns on establishment; both adjustable and fixed-sighted arms.

Adam

Years ago I had a friend on the hyway patrol that showed up here with a Lady Smith with a 2 in. barrel he picked up for a back-up gun. When we all got done pokeing fun at him we started shooting it. At that time we did alot of shooting at tin can between 60 and 75 yrds. With 158 gr. swc and 3 grs. of Bullseye my first cylinder load was all within 6 in. of a can at abt. 65 yrds. I got to eat alot of crow after the way I slammed his guns, actucally, he didn`t say much, he just stood there and grinded at me.
