P89 Ruger?
I shot a p89 Ruger for my CCW way back when and I am now thinking about picking one up to have for carry and maybe start back with IDPA/IPSC. I like it, I like the 15 round capacity on the factory clips, and the one I shot was dead accurate. However I want other opinions on it as well. Looking at the stainless version with the decocker. Now I have been told that one of the decocker versions had a feature that when you released the decocker rather than staying in the down position it pops back up so that you are ready for a DA shot. Anybody know if this is true? Is this on all the decocker versions? If not what is the model that has it? I know that P89DC is decocker, and P89DAO is double action only.
Anyway thanks for the opinions in advance. GoodOlBoy

Yep they stopped making the p89 last year. However there are usually anywhere from 40 to 400 for sale new on gunbroker, and most shops can get them no problem.

See what you did now !!!! Got me thinking about how much I wanted a P89. Then out of the blue I hooked up with a limited edition P89 , with all the paperwork, 2 magazines, 2 boxes of defence ammo, and a high end holster. The gun looks un-shot. All for $325 and no tax,,, SWEET ! It was no steal but it was a good deal

I carry one a lot, mine is a decock model, but it does not reset when I drop the lever. I have to push it back up.
Mine has never burped at all on me, shoots anything I put in it.

I have the P85. The only difference between it and the P-89 from what I understand is the internal workings of the safety are different. Ruger recalled all the P-85's within a certain SN range and fixed the guns with a modified safety. Then the used the change and called them the P-89.
On mine, when you depress the safety, the hammer drops and the safety lever stays in the down position You have to manually raise it to be able to fire the pistol. I know that mine is more accurate than I am. Paul B. |

I forgot to add in my l;ast post that the p-89 with the decocker that pops back up so you can shoot if necessary is a DAO gun, double action only.
Doesn't make sense to be. a I would consider double action to mean you can either shoot by pulling the trigger for the first shot or in single action mode after the first shot. Guess they had to call it something. Paul B. |

I have this P90 that I love.
Mine is the decock/safety model. When I flip the lever it drops the hammer and stays in safe, but mine is not the decock only model. I then flip it out of the safe position. Next time around I would not get the safety model. I do like the Houge grips on it. Worth the investment. Dale
