A local gun shop has a sale going on and are offering a new Kahr Arms M1 Thompson at a greatly reduced price. They also have new M1 Carbines on sale. I have these already so will not be buying either one. They are very nice and an addition to any military collection. When taken to the range, they tend to attract some attention which can be fun. Looked at the Thompson look alikes.....would like to have one, but at $1500, that is a bit pricey for a gun to shoot at tin cans and targets with....on top of the fact that the ones I looked at only took stick magazines. With a daughter heading to college this fall, and a new proposed tax structure here in MI, I can't afford the luxury right now.

When taken to the range, they tend to attract some attention which can be fun.

My M-14 and flintlock trade musket tend to do the same thing.........

The M1 Thompson Gil mentioned has a hang tag of $999.00. That is well below the M.S.R.P., but still a lot of money. Take care...

The ones I saw at our local discount chain were $1500....the store is giving $50 off (via coupon), but that's about the extent of the savings. Like I said, gotta come down a whole lot more.......22 is cheaper for shooting targets (not to mention not one box of .45 ACP ammo can be found around here anymore!)

An M1 Thompson for a Grand! I could buy several better arms for the same money. What is a .45 ACP Thompson SEMI good for? It is not a Chuck gun, a Deer gun or a house gun. I can get a .243 for chucks for less than a grand. I have a .308 with scope for deer for under a Grand. For a house gun I have a 12 Gauge Mossberg 500A with #4 Buck-I can get TWO for a Grand.

The "Live" Thompson was a short range arm for sweeping trenches. The Semi is an "also ran" clone better suited to armchair enthusiasts.

Of course there are less expensive firearms and we all have them. This post is not about what costs less. There are a lot of custom rifles and shotguns that cost a whole lot more. It is about a classic arm that some folks may want to own for whatever reason. Have you looked at the hang tag price of an M1 Garand or an M1 Carbine recently? I guess you will not want to submit a bid on the M1 Thompson. All the best...

You are correct, I will not bid on the M1 Thompson. They have a good set of "stones" to ask $1,000 per copy of that junker arm. Come on, $250 would be a big price for that piece of stuff!

Yes, I know, many folks will snap up that arm to fulfill a fantasy in the privacy of their den. I support that right.

Something about the TOMMY GUN I have always wanted one. I guess the old gangster movies.

I have bought a marlin camp nine and camp 45 in the past and sold both of them lately at a nice profit. I did not shoot the camps much and need the cash for other projects and the morgage. Same would go for the TOMMY. I would get it and sell it so I might as well not get it. I still want it.
