Another Gun 'Accident'

I'm surprised nobody mentioned this. Years ago, Remington brought out the .280 Rem. but chambered only the pump and semi-auto rifles for he round. Power level was kept sufficiently low for those two rifles. People wanted the round in the M700 so Remington changed the name to
7MM Remington Express and made the load a bit hotter. Then people started mixing up the name 7MM Rem. Exp. with 7MM Rem. Mag. and shooting the round in 7MM mag. rifles, and now you know the rest of the story. It didn't take Remington long to change the name back to .280 Remington. I wonder if they then downloaded the powder change back to original levels? Just a very poor choice in renaming the cartridge IMHO. Still, people should pay more attention to what they should be using in their rifles.

Oh, I remember these......what was used was clearly stamped 7MM Exp.....had to be old ammo or ....due to ammo shortages......they bought anything available.......

A while back I was at a gun show and this dude hde several boxes of remington factory .280 Rem. ammo for a decent price. I bought it and when i got home, I looked at the ammo for splits and grins like I always do and half the stuff in the boxes was matked 7MM Exp. The boxes were old enought that i imagine remington just might have used up some left over brass. Shoots just fine so no biggie.

LOL...really, no laugh...this is the inept crap that gives ALL shooters a black eye!...By the grace of God, nothing serious happened....on my suggestion, the receiver ring is oval....gun is junk! Did not reload..tossed brass and this was the one that let go!....Still, requires a minimal knowledge to know the difference in a belted case n a non belt!...amazing part is the bullet exited and actually killed animal at about 50 yd!

No they did not. As a matter of fact Hornady now offers their Superformance loads in .280 Rem. I have a left-handed fifteen year old Browning A-Bolt Stainless Stalker chambered in .280. I switched to the new 139 gr Hornady ammo this year and other than re-zeroing for the higher velocity the only shot I fired this past season was at a fat little Pennsylvania eight point.
