An old vet's military surplus guns
My girlfriend asked me to identify, appraise and perhaps buy some military arms that belonged to an old vet who recently passed away. One family member took a few arms to a gun shop and sold them. They were all hunting rifles and shotguns. The military stuff is being delivered to me on Sunday. I was told that one rifle is an 1897 Mauser and we all know that is probably an 1898 Mauser. I have no idea what is involved nor the condition and will report back with my findings. All the best...

The results are in

It seems the rifle was stored in a damp basement for a number of years. I offered to clean up the rifle, but was told the new owner wanted to do it. He asked about ammo and resale value. I told him my opinions and left. All the best...
