NM Antelope success

One of my clients called me about putting together an Antelope hunt for him, as it was on his bucket list. Just so happened I had booked a hunt for myself with one of my NM Elk Outfitters, so my client joined me and off we went for the opening day (Aug 21st). Saw lots of Antelope and passed many great bucks during the day. My client found one exactly liked he had hoped for, so by high noon his tagged was filled. I passed good bucks all day and just as shooting time was about to end, we found what appeared to be a tall racked buck high on a ridge. My guide ranged him at 320 yards and I let loose from a sitting position. The buck collapsed. Upon reaching my buck, I quickly realized the importance of my own rule when hunting Antelope: if you can't get a real good look at him, don't shoot! My buck wasn't the typical deep hooked, long cutters I'd hoped for, in fact, far from it. Oh well, I love hunting Antelope; I consider the meat outstanding; I had a great time (though short) in New Mexico (my first hunt there) and made a good, clean shot. Always next year. Maybe I can practice what I preach next time
Good hunting,
David
As a side note: I found every single person I met incredibly friendly. The NMG&F at Raton were outstanding in assisting me with my license. The local Game Warden's were very friendly as well. Beautiful country and lots of wildlife. Saw Elk every morning and evening.
